IRF conferences present an excellent opportunity for dialogue among regulators, operators, trade organizations, contractors, academics, and other interested parties.

Some suggested agenda topics for the Perth conference:

• How significant of a safety risk factor is regulatory fragmentation?
• Is the number of non-occupational illnesses and fatalities at offshore facilities increasing?
• Improving IRF Performance Measures Data
  • More timely compilation and posting
  • Closing the data gaps
  • Further categorizing incidents by the type of facility (e.g. MODU, fixed platform, floating platform, subsea production system, pipeline, etc.), and activity (e.g. well operations, production, diving, helicopter transit, etc.)
  • Brief description (or link to report or summary) for each fatality, major gas release, major collision, major fire, and major loss of well control.
• International standard for disclosing major incidents and releasing findings
• Re-establishing an IRF Safety Award à la the Carolita Kallaur Award for Outstanding International Safety Leadership
