Welcome to BOE!
The blog is back after a brief 10-year pause while I engaged in consulting activities. The blogs interests remain the same: energy policy, offshore safety, pollution prevention, and regulatory philosophy. BOE will interview prominent figures in the offshore industry and government, report on offshore projects, trends, and accidents, and reminisce about historical activity. The Rigs-to-Reefs+++ covers the many suggested uses for offshore platforms, sensible and otherwise. On the Not -My-Job Awards page, leading slackers from around the world will teach you lessons that you don’t learn in the class room. I hope you enjoy the blog! Bud
BOE Advocates:
- Responsible offshore oil and gas exploration and development
- Responsible offshore wind and hydrokinetic energy development
- Efficient, risk-based regulation of offshore energy projects
- Safety and environmental leadership by offshore operators and contractors
- Energy conservation measures including smart growth, pedestrian and bicycle-friendly communities, improved mass transit, and energy efficiency designs
- Increased use of natural gas for transportation to reduce energy imports and improve air quality

Hi Bud,
Great site. I will be visiting it regularly to keep up. I am seeking approval (from my new management) to attend the IRF Conference this year in Vancouver. If I’m successful, I can volunteer to help out however….
Take care,
Thanks Tad. I hope you can make it to Vancouver. We’ll put you to work! bud
Bud,
Excellent vehicle for sharing information and making a positive impact in production, safety, environmental protection, and more! BOE is informative and an enjoyable read. Thanks.

Thanks Phil! bud
Hey Bud,
Talk about hitting the ground running!! I so enjoyed your blog. It’s like getting a Bud-buzz when I need one. I will come often to glean the wisdom. 😉
Doug
Thanks Doug. I hope all is well!
Hi Bud,
We got the link from Mary and will read through…thanks and good luck!
Hi Bud,
Glad to see the blog. The industry needs a another voice to respond to the insanity going on right now – both from Congress, the Executive Branch and the media. Keep it up.
Hello Bud,
I wish more people would understand the impacts of foreign oil VS domestic production and how it has been done relatively safe and environmentaly friendly, it would benefit the public to see or become aware of your blog and educate themselves to make good decisions when they vote. How can we pass it on to the greater public?
Roy
Hello Bud – Thanks for sticking with the industry in a very creative way, we need you! I look forward to reading your blog regularly to get your much needed insight into the wild ride that’s going on right now. Regards.
Ken
Thanks Ken. Good to hear from you. I trust you are still involved with safety management. I hope so. Bud
Photo shown on your web site re : offshore Malaysia ?Shell ect ..
Was it on Sedco 135 E /A in 1969 > 70’s ?
It was on a jackup offshore East Malaysia n 1977. Shell was the operator, but I don’t recall the rig name.
No do not know this one, was on Shell semi sub rig 69>71 offshore Brunei / Miri East Malaysia.
Thanks for kind note.
I don’t know what Miri is like now, but the Shell compound was very nice back then.
Dont know, have not been back there 40 years now, the BSP Brunei Shell Petroleum was in Brunei, the Miri was Shell Sarawak Berhad running the refinery and tanker loading in Lutong, 5miles from Miri. We had some very nasty blowout ( entire rig burned down) and surface gas was always a danger area before BOP’s were set.
For Bud :
Mrs Danenberger an artist is it painting oil / water colour ?
Thank you for asking. She works with oil and acrylics. Most of her paintings are of Cape Cod beach scenes and Venice, where she was a student and we recently had a wonderful vacation. She also paints still lifes and portraits. Pictures of her work can be viewed at KarenDanenberger.wordpress.com
Many thanks for the note, in fact I have found it in your site today !the reason for asking is because I paint also.
You may want to know on another thread that the bill for privatization of rescue helicos in UK has been booted this am due to irregularities in the bidding process.
Since you are an artist, you must be in awe of the masterpiece “Rig at Sunset” 🙂
Yes I like the unusual corner and underside angle of perspective very much ! also it is leaving out non important details to carry out the impression of energy and sun light.
If you have an E mail will download few of my offshore scene published. I do not have a web site but my work comes out thru galleries.
Hi, Bud. I’m a long-time news reporter for Platts (we’re now called S&P Global Commodity Insights). On the topic of lease sales, I wonder if you’re hearing anything about how E&P companies are dealing with the uncertainty of near-term lease sales if the Biden folks don’t get the BOEM’s 2022-2027 five-year lease plan finished by the stipulated June 30 deadline.
Specifically, are they having more discussions about possible farming into older discoveries — possibly the 20,000 psi ones that got a lot of press years ago but were kept on ice for lack of technology to produce them?
Thanks.
