Now that the sleeping air traffic controller problem at Reagan National (and elsewhere) has been addressed…

can something be done about the Customs mess at Washington Dulles? The long delays are not a good way to greet international visitors or welcome home returning Americans.

I go to the OTC Offshore Tech. Conf. via Boston to avoid the ever on going messes at Houston airport when arriving on International flights ! It’s a scandal all these new forms to fill up in addition to normal US visas requirements , considering that your passport is checked before take off and scanned and available to landing authorities 10 hours before you get there.
Looks like Boston welcome tourists and business people alike.
Add Los Angeles to that – even the preferred Global Access program still holds you up for 3/4 hr at Customs.
So…..in North Carolina this is the worst storm in 25 years and devastated the houses designed allegedly to 100 year conditions. So why is that acceptable but we insist on demanned platforms being able to survive 1/1000 year conditions based on the new API DG code.? whereas there is no outcry to change the building code for a 1/25 year event where there is loss of life.?
Malcolm, Having worked in government for 38.5 years, these inconsistencies make perfect sense to me. 🙂
I am sure Singapore could accomodate the OTC , they have already the first night Formula one race and they are looking for new businesses.
I was last in Singapore in 1977 and enjoyed it thoroughly. I stayed at the old Raffles Hotel. After 34 years, I think it is time for a return trip!
1977 ! you would be shocked in some good ways and bad one off course, I miss the old 2/3 storeys area with original houses and corner coffee shop with rotating fans, lively street markets. They have now better hotels than in Houston, a beautiful airport complex and spotless travel system with full aircon underground tracks. The rule is “discipline” and you are so safe there.
The last resort complex was the Marina Sands , the roof garden and pool is the size of 3 x A380 look at the web. architecture everywhere is stunning, life goes on. I go there every year since 1969, but scrutinize how success can be achieved.
